Thoughts From Dr. Carpenter About The Book

will cropped resized_edited-1Throughout the writing of this book, Tom and I have had many discussions as to how to introduce the thousands of people who have had a significant impact on my life: family, friends, mentors, co-workers, helpers, the many about whom I have cared. Dozens, even hundreds of people contributed to and were often major players in nearly every event in the book. To include and cover all the contributors in depth however, would make the book longer than War and Peace. My apologies to anyone whom we have overlooked.

During my years of working with the many outstanding academic and industry scientists, we were able to bring science and agriculture to new levels, and to rescue untold numbers of people worldwide from lifetimes of back breaking work. My efforts and growth were made possible by the people at Monsanto, who for 34 years provided the work environment in which I and my fellow workers were able to flourish. And I am honored and proud to have been able to work with the exceptional people whose outstanding contributions brought about the OPCW, (Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) the organization that eliminated most of the world’s chemical weapons.

Over eight decades have been spent with remarkable people who have taught me much, but none are more important than the woman with whom I have shared my journey. Hellen is not only my wife, but my best friend, and her wisdom, dedication and love, along with the joy our children, Will and Celeste have provided has made my life complete.  –Dr. Will D Carpenter
