Fox Business Channel Discusses Dr. James Naismith!
Monday, January 30, 2017, at 8:00 p.m., the Fox Business Channel will talk to Jim Naismith, grandson of Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. Jim Naismith inherited the original rules of the game from his father—Dr. Naismith’s son—who had received the rules around 1929 from Hellen Dodd Carpenter’s Mother, who was the executor of the estate.
Hellen Carpenter’s Mother kept hundreds of items relating to Dr. Naismith’s creation of the game, but surprisingly, no organizations or universities were interested in owning them. As a result, the items were placed in an auction in 2006.
The Small College Basketball Association honored Dr. Naismith in November 2016 in Evansville, Indiana by including him in the Inaugural Small College Basketball Hall of Fame. As Dr. Naismith’s grandchildren, both Jim Naismith and Hellen Dodd Carpenter were invited guests at the ceremony.
